The microbiota of children with ASD is distinct from neurotypical children, <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">their food habits are also di<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">ff<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">erent, and it is known that nutrient intake influences microbiota <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">in a specific way.<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Thus, this study investigates the food habits of children with ASD and their<\/span><br role=\"presentation\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">association with the gut microbiota. Children with ASD had their dietary energy intakes similar to <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">controls, but they more often demonstrated food selectivity, which seemed to result in deficiency <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">of micronutrients such as vitamins K, B6, C, iron, cooper, docosahexaenoic and docosapentanoic <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">acid. Using high-throughput sequencing, a DNA library of intestinal microbiota was performed. <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Core microbiota was similar in children with and without ASD, but<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Dichelobacter<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">,<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Nitriliruptor<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">and <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Constrictibacter<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">were found to be putative markers of ASD. The changes in gut microbiota that we <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">observed in connection to food selectivity, intake of fats and omega-3 in particular, fermented milk <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">products and animal<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">\/<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">plant protein consumption had similar character, independent of diagnosis. <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">However, high fibre intake was connected with a decreased<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">\u03b1<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">-diversity only in children with ASD. <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">High carbohydrate and fibre intake influenced<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">\u03b2<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">-diversity, changing the abundance of<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Bacteroides<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">and <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">other genera, many of them members of the<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Clostidiaceae<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">.
