Starka<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">ABSTRACT: <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Vitamin D had been for a long time investigated for its effects on<\/span><br role=\"presentation\" \/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">bone metabolism. Recently has been observed that the incidence <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">of<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">some<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">neurodevelopmental<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">disorders<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">(including<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">autism) <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">increases<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">hand<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">in<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">hand<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">with<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">vitamin D<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">deficiency.<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Indeed, <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">vitamin D<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">was<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">reported<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">to<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">modulate<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">the<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">biosynthesis<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">of <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">neurotransmitters<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">and<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">neurotrophic<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">factors;<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">moreover,<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">its <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">receptor was found in the central nervous system. Vitamin D <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">deficiency was therefore assessed as a risk factor for autism, <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">however the biological mechanism has not yet been revealed. <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">In our<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">review<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">we<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">focused<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">on<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">potential<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">connections<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">among <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">vitamin D,<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">steroids<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">and<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">autism.<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Potential<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">mechanisms<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">of <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">vitamin D action are also discussed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" align=\"justify\">Physiol Res, 2017. 66(Supplementum 3): p.
