Therefore, the term \u2013 autistic spectrum <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">disorders, is preferred today. Due to the progress of autism in <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">recent decades, a wide range of studies have been done to <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">identify the etiology. Autism is very probably caused by mul<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">tiple etiological factors affecting central nervous system deve<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">lopment in critical periods of early life. High heritability sug<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">gests that genes play key role in autism etiology. A<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">number of <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">candidate genes, that control brain development, production <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">of neurotransmitters and neuromodulators, have been identi<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">fied. Gamma-aminobutyric acid, glutamate, dopamine, norad<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">renaline, serotonin, acetylcholine are in the centre of research <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">interest as well as the hormones \u2013 testosterone, melatonin and <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">oxytocin. Recently the interactions between susceptible genes <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">and environmental factors have been proposed as the major<\/span><br role=\"presentation\" \/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">mechanism of autism etiopathogenesis.
