ABSTRACT: Autistic Spectrum Disorders (ASD) are neurodevelopmental <\/span>disorders characterized by impairment in social communica<\/span>tion and the presence of repetitive stereotypical behavior. In <\/span>developed countries, based on studies and national collection <\/span>of information, the prevalence of 1 \u2013 2 % of all children is <\/span>estimated, with increasing trend. Incidence and prevalence <\/span>ASD in Slovakia is unknown. ASD screening is active search for <\/span>individuals with high risk for ASD in population. The introduc<\/span>tion of M-CHAT screening at age 16 and 24 months could <\/span>reduce the age of establishing diagnosis under 36 months <\/span>(currently 4.51 years in Slovakia). Early diagnosis is a prerequi<\/span>site for early intervention, which is the most important factor <\/span>that can influence the long-term prognosis of PAS individuals. <\/span>Suspected cases in higher age group can be screened by self<\/span>-reporting methods, by questionnaire or by clinical observa<\/span>tion testing.<\/span><\/p>\n Lek\u00e1rsky obzor. – Ro\u010d. 67, \u010d. 7-8 (2018), s. 226-233. – ISSN (print) 0457-4214<\/p>\n
