Recent evidences suggest <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">glial<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">cells<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">involvement<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">in<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">autism<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">pathophysiology.<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">S100B<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">is <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">a calcium<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">binding<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">protein,<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">mainly<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">found<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">in<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">astrocytes<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">and <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">therefore used as a marker of their activity. In our study, children <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">with<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">autism<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">had<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">higher<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">plasma<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">concentrations<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">of<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">S100B <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">compared<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">to<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">non-autistic<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">controls.<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">No<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">association<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">of<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">S100B <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">plasma<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">levels<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">with<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">behavioral<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">symptoms<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">(ADI-R<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">and<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">ADOS-2 <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">scales)<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">was<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">found.<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Plasma<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">S100B<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">concentration<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">significantly <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">correlated with urine serotonin, suggesting their interconnection. <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Correlation<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">of<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">plasma<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">S100B<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">levels<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">with<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">stool<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">calprotectin <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">concentrations was found, suggesting not only brain astrocytes, <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">but also enteric glial cells may take part in autism pathogenesis. <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Based on our findings, S100B seems to have a potential to be <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">used as a biomarker of human neurodevelopmental disorders, <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">but more investigations are needed to clarify its exact role in <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">pathomechanism of autism.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" align=\"justify\">Physiol Res, 2019. 68(3) Supplementum: 315-323.<\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" align=\"justify\"><span style=\"color: #0563c1;\"><u><a href=\"http:\/\/www.biomed.cas.cz\/physiolres\/pdf\/68\/68_S315.pdf\">http:\/\/www.biomed.cas.cz\/physiolres\/pdf\/68\/68_S315.pdf<\/a><\/u><\/span><\/p>\n[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][\/vc_column][\/vc_row]\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text] AUTHORS: Sashova Tomova, A., Kemenyova, P., Celarova, D., Szapuova, Z., Kovac, A., Babinska, K., Ostatnikova D.
